In 2006 Blue Sky kicked off its “Americana Caravan” concert series, kicking off with a sold out performance by legendary Texas singer/songwriter Joe Ely. Hosted by Michael Young of WFPK 91.9 Radio Louisville, the Americana Caravan presented affordable listening room style shows with a three-fold focus: 1) to raise awareness of the organization and its mission; 2) raise funds for future endeavors; and 3) showcase some of the finest Americana music around. Along with Joe Ely, the Americana Caravan brought Jim Lauderdale, Jason & The Scorchers, Richard Buckner, Kim Richey, Jeff Black, Grayson Capps, The Bottle Rockets, Slaid Cleaves, Mark Olson, Vandaveer and Tim Easton to a number of local stages, several of them for multiple performances.
The Caravan also proudly hosted Louisville’s own Tim Krekel, danny flanigan, Brigid Kaelin, Teneia Sanders, Johnny Berry, John Mann, Leigh Ann Yost, and Between Two Lions. The series continued for three additional years in 2008, 2010 and 2011.
